GTA 6 lets you play Jason and Lucia together, split up, or switch between them mid-mission. Here's exactly how it worked in the Extended Look.
You can play Jason and Lucia as a team, split them up to run separate chaos, or switch between them mid-mission — same car, same job, no loading screen. Rockstar confirmed this directly.
What It Looks Like in Practice
Most of the Extended Look shows Jason and Lucia together — driving, robbing stores, working a job as one unit, covering each other through hallways during a fight. That's the default state.
Hotel Megamundo is where the split shows up. Trouble hits the hotel and the footage cuts the two apart for the first time in the whole reveal — Jason in one location, Lucia in another, coordinating by mobile whilst both are mid-shootout. The camera swaps between them the same way GTA V swapped between Michael and Trevor mid-mission, except here both characters are working the same plan from two ends of it, not two separate agendas.
One earlier switch shows Lucia base-jumping off a skyscraper — the camera follows her chute deploy, pulls up to a bird's-eye view of the city, then drops into Jason sitting on a sofa talking to a friend. Different tone, same tool: switch whenever you like, not on a cooldown timer tied to a mission checkpoint.
Why It's a Bigger Deal Than It Sounds
GTA V's three-protagonist switch was built around picking one character per mission moment. GTA 6's version is built around two protagonists who are a couple first — the switching exists to serve that relationship, not just to vary gameplay. Rockstar's own framing calls it a way to "enable as much self-expression as possible, without losing the essence of the characters."
