Rockstar's "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" premiered on Netflix on 27 August 2026 at 3 PM ET / 8 PM UK. It's 27 minutes long, captured entirely from PS5 in-game footage, and it's the first official GTA 6 gameplay Rockstar has shown. It hit the Rockstar YouTube channel and the official GTA VI site six hours later, at 9 PM ET.

The Cold Open: Drug Raid at the Apartment
The Extended Look opens on Jason and Lucia in a rough neighbourhood, working the street — talking to local lads, walking past real-time NPC activity. They head up to an apartment that turns out to be a drug den. Jason pets a dog on the way in — more on why that matters below.
Inside, it turns into a police raid. Ernesto warns Raymond that cops are coming, panic sweeps the room, and Jason and Lucia shoot their way out with pistols and shotguns as everyone scrambles for the exits. Lucia asks "Was that Menendez?" about one of the officers mid-escape — not "Mendez," the name is Menendez, which is close enough to explain the mishearing live.
Jason and Lucia's Apartment
After the raid, the pace slows down. Jason waits by the fridge while Lucia gets ready — a genuinely quiet couple's moment before a party. This is also where Jason watches in-world TV commercials, and where the footage establishes Jason and Lucia as partners first, criminals second — the "Bonnie and Clyde" framing Rockstar has used to describe the story.
Driving Vice City
A montage shows Jason and Lucia driving through the city — shop robberies along the way, rain hitting the windscreen near the airport, and the Miami-inspired skyline in the background. The world reacts to them in real time: random NPCs, some of them publicly livestreaming from their mobiles as chaos unfolds near them.
Combat, Wanted Levels, and the Bautista Heist
Rockstar confirmed the six-star wanted system is back — absent since GTA V moved to a different model. The footage shows gunfights, police chases, and a demonstration of what a lower wanted level (around four stars) plays like versus the top end.
Raul Bautista, a veteran bank robber, is shown pulling Lucia and Jason into a bank robbery — GTA 6's first confirmed heist set-up. Bautista gives Lucia a pep talk about going pro as a criminal while they're still shaking off cops from the last job. Brian Heder, a Keys-era drug smuggler, turns up in a separate scene working his boat yard.
Vice City's Open World
The Extended Look packs in a long list of activities: fan boats, basketball, scuba diving, jet skis, kayaking, an actual racing circuit, a strip club, a jewellery store robbery, a motorbike chase, and a base jump off a skyscraper — Rockstar's take on GTA V's spawn-in-anywhere freedom. Bayside gets its own sizzle-reel stretch of footage covering several of these back to back.
Andres de Leon and Hotel Megamundo
Jason and Lucia are introduced to Andres de Leon and take a job protecting him at a party — driving him there, working as bodyguards. Later, trouble hits Hotel Megamundo (the skyscraper HQ of in-game network Megamundo, styled after Telemundo) and the footage splits Jason and Lucia up for the first time in the entire reveal. It cuts back and forth between them by phone during a shootout — the same switch-mid-mission structure GTA V used between Michael and Trevor, but built for two characters working one plan from two locations. There's a slow-motion headshot kill in the middle of it.
Also Shown
A recording studio, a bar, planes, boats, and helicopters round out the world tour. Rockstar's newswire post frames the whole thing as PS5 target footage, running in-engine from start to finish.
What Got Missed Watching Live
A few things confirmed in the Extended Look and Rockstar's own materials didn't make it into the first-watch notes:
- The release date. 19 November 2026 — the single most-searched fact tied to this reveal, and easy to miss when you're watching for gameplay rather than announcements.
- Seamless character switching, named explicitly. Rockstar describes it as playing Jason and Lucia "as a couple, or go off and cause chaos independently" — switching mid-mission, mid-drive, same car. The Hotel Megamundo sequence is the clearest example of it in the reveal.
- The honour/karma system. Petting the dog early on isn't just a charming moment — Rockstar has confirmed it registers as a positive karma action for Jason, part of a broader system tracking how the world responds to your choices.
- Body and lifestyle changes. An exercise system is back — build muscle at the gym, or gain weight from poor choices — visible in the footage but easy to miss without knowing to look for it.
- A car-jacking QTE. Jason cracks a car window with a quick-time prompt rather than an instant jack — a small mechanical change from past games.
- Convertible roofs and disguises. Cars with working retractable roofs, and outfit/haircut changes used as actual disguises, not merely cosmetic swaps.
- VR spying and backyard wrestling. Two of the odder NPC-interaction beats in the open-world montage, alongside a moment of Jason eating crisps on a sofa mid-scene.
One detail from the original account we could not verify: a location referred to as "the Enflavia." Nothing in Rockstar's newswire post or official coverage of the Extended Look uses that name, and it doesn't match any confirmed Vice City location, business, or venue. It may be a mishearing of dialogue or on-screen signage in the rooftop-dinner scene it was tied to — we're not going to guess at a name Rockstar hasn't confirmed.
