A prominent GTA YouTuber was flown to Rockstar North and saw 2.5 hours of unreleased GTA 6 gameplay beyond the Extended Look. Here's every confirmed detail — Criminal Profile, map size, police overhaul, fuel, and more.
While the rest of the world watched Rockstar's 27-minute Extended Look on Netflix, one person had already seen 2.5 hours more than that.
TheGamingGuy (TGG) was flown by Rockstar from Australia to Edinburgh, Scotland on July 13, 2026 — weeks before the Netflix premiere — and spent time at Rockstar North watching Rob Nelson, co-head of GTA 6 development, play free roam for two and a half hours. What he saw goes significantly beyond what Rockstar showed in its official Extended Look gameplay reveal on August 27. This article breaks down every confirmed detail from his exclusive preview.
Source: TGG's post-Extended Look video, published August 27, 2026. Everything below is attributed to TGG's direct account of what he witnessed and what Rob Nelson told him on record.
The Criminal Profile System (It's Not an Honor System)
The single most significant thing TGG revealed is how GTA 6 actually handles the karma-style system everyone assumed was a Red Dead 2 port. Earlier Extended Look coverage on this site described a dog-petting moment as part of an honor system — TGG's reporting corrects and sharpens that.
It's called Criminal Profile — and it works differently than anything in a GTA game before.
There is no visible bar. You won't see it ticking up and down in real time. Instead, both Jason and Lucia have a dedicated tab in the in-game menu that shows their Criminal Profile status. Rob Nelson confirmed this directly to TGG.
Here's how it works:
A high Criminal Profile doesn't mean being a good person. It means being a good criminal. TGG's example: pull off a store robbery without killing anyone — get in, get out clean like a professional — and your Criminal Profile goes up. You did a crime. You just did it well.
A low Criminal Profile means you're being chaotic for chaos's sake. Hammering bodies that are already dead. Mowing down pedestrians excessively. Murdering animals. Rob Nelson's words to TGG: these are the actions that drop your profile.
There is a point of no return. TGG confirmed that if your Criminal Profile drops far enough, the in-game logo associated with it will crack or shatter. At that point, you cannot recover it for the rest of that playthrough. It's not framed as failure — it's simply a different state. Some players will play that way intentionally. Rockstar built it as a choice, not a punishment.
Rob Nelson's quote on the decision-making weight this creates: "You have to make a lot more decisions. Yes, all the time. And I think it adds so much to the game. You can find yourself playing in a restrained way and then someone crosses a line and then that's it. You have to deal with them. Or you just don't care and say screw it. But even that is a decision and it feels powerful and often very funny in the moment."
The practical implications are real. Carjacking in GTA 5 was mindless — grab someone out of a car and drive away. In GTA 6, the person you jack calls the cops immediately. Your Criminal Profile takes a hit. You now have a wanted level, a witness who can describe you, and a car that may have a tracker. Rob's example to TGG: sometimes you're better off finding a parked car with no one around and breaking in quietly, because doing it clean is worth more than doing it fast.
The Relationship System Between Jason and Lucia
There's also a relationship system, and it lives in the same Jason and Lucia menu tab as Criminal Profile.
Again, no visible bar. No meter ticking up when you do something nice. The system tracks the relationship status between the two protagonists in the background.
How you improve it: texting. Jason and Lucia can text each other in-game — TGG confirmed you can literally say goodnight. You can ask them on dates. Going to the gym together counts as a date. Walking around the world together and holding hands registers as positive relationship actions.
This system matters because Jason and Lucia's cooperation throughout the game is tied to how their relationship is tracking. The implications for missions, story branches, and how they interact during gameplay haven't been fully detailed yet — but the system is confirmed and built into the core character tab.
Map Size: The Numbers Rob Nelson Gave TGG
Rob Nelson gave TGG specific figures on record. These are not estimates or fan calculations — they came directly from the co-head of development:
- The full GTA 6 map is twice the size of GTA 5's map
- The full GTA 6 map is three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2's map
- Vice City itself is twice the size of Los Santos
- Vice City and its surrounding suburbs combined are 11 times bigger than Los Santos and its surrounds
That last number is the one that reframes everything. Los Santos felt massive in GTA 5. Vice City's greater metro area in GTA 6 is eleven times that footprint. The map isn't just bigger — it's structurally different. TGG described it as one contiguous open world with swamp terrain, beach cities, and rural highway visible in the same space — consistent with what the Extended Look showed of Bayside and the surrounding area.
The HUD: Three Bars, Three Money Types, and Focus
TGG confirmed the HUD layout from the gameplay he watched:
Top left — three bars:
- Health
- Stamina
- Focus
Focus is not Dead Eye. It's similar — it slows time — but it also lets you see weak points on NPCs and vehicles. Targeting an NPC's weak point in combat changes the outcome. Targeting a vehicle's gas tank, engine block, or tires rather than just shooting at it makes a meaningful difference. Tires specifically are more consequential to lose in GTA 6 than in GTA 5 — once a tire is shot out, the vehicle handles dramatically differently.
All three bars can be permanently increased through consistent activity — working out, completing side activities. They can be temporarily boosted past their normal cap by consumables like protein shakes and food. But that temporary boost only fills back to your normal level once it depletes — it doesn't stay extended.
Top right — three money states:
- Bank account (purple icon) — safe, can only be accessed via ATM. You cannot deposit cash from your phone this time. You physically have to go to an ATM.
- Cash — on your person. Lost on death, potentially on arrest.
- Duffel bag — loot you've collected that hasn't been processed yet. Has to be taken to a fence before it becomes usable money.
The fence system is a significant new mechanic. TGG has additional notes on it that he says will get its own dedicated video — but the core is that you need to build a relationship with a fence to unlock capabilities. One example he gave: removing a GPS tracker from a stolen car requires unlocking that ability through your fence relationship first.
The Police Overhaul
This is the other system TGG spent significant time on, and it changes the entire wanted-level loop from GTA 5 — building directly on the six-star wanted level system confirmed in the Extended Look.
Police are no longer on the minimap. In GTA 5, losing the cops meant staring at the minimap and watching blips go by while hiding in an alley. That's gone. You have to actually look at the world around you and use the environment to hide, not a UI element.
The search system uses circles, not a radius. At 1-5 stars, there's an inner dark red circle where the crime happened — that's where police are actively searching. There's a larger, lighter outer circle — the extended search area. Getting outside both circles is what loses the cops. At 6 stars, police search the entire map. TGG says 6 stars is genuinely hard to reach.
Cars have trackers. Every police vehicle has a GPS tracker. Many civilian vehicles do too. If you're in a tracked car with a wanted level, the police know exactly where you are. Switching to an older car that predates tracker technology is a legitimate escape strategy.
Cops recognize your appearance. They know what car you got into, what you're wearing, what weapon you were holding, and whether you were with the other protagonist. Jason and Lucia being together makes you more identifiable — splitting up is a tactical option during a wanted level.
Losing the cops now requires deliberate action: change your outfit, swap your vehicle, get outside the search circle. Pay and sprays are back but they're unlocked progressively — you don't have access to all of them from the start.
Tires matter. Police will shoot out your tires, and driving on a blown tire is dramatically harder than GTA 5. This feeds directly into the Focus mechanic — one of the primary uses of slow-motion targeting is protecting your tires during a chase.
Fuel Is in the Game
TGG confirmed it: fuel is a real mechanic in GTA 6. He says it's not intended to be an inconvenience — Rockstar designed it to be manageable — but it exists. Electric vehicle charging is also in the game. He's planning a standalone vehicle system video because the full vehicle mechanic set is extensive.
His framing: if you're worried about fuel being annoying, it's going to be fine. But it's there.
The Gym System
TGG watched Rob take Jason and Lucia together to a gym. The full loop he described:
- Walk up to the front desk and buy a membership
- Go to the vending machines near the change rooms — there are many items available
- Buy a pre-workout item (Rob bought Lucia a protein shake — temporary stamina and strength boost for the workout)
- Complete three exercises of the same type (strength, cardio, etc.) — each exercise fills a workout ring by roughly 33%
- Completing a full workout ring grants a timed boost to the relevant stat
The system is entirely optional. Rob Nelson confirmed directly to TGG that you can complete the full game without ever going to the gym. But if you engage with it, it provides real minor boosts to health, stamina, and focus over time.
The Phone and In-Game Social Media
GTA 6's phone is a full application ecosystem. TGG confirmed the following apps exist:
- Buckme — a Cash App parody, your in-game banking app
- Ride Me — an Uber equivalent; you can call rides to your location
- Scooter Bros — functions like the GTA 5 mechanic app, letting you call your personal vehicle to you (notable because this wasn't available in GTA 5 single player)
- What Up — the texting app; Jason and Lucia communicate through this, and you can text other NPCs
- Fitness app — tracks your workout schedule and stats
The in-game social media platform is real and functional. NPCs post on it. Those posts are geotagged to real locations in the world. You can see what an NPC is posting about, go to that location, and watch whatever event they were posting about unfold in real time. TGG describes it as "quite an extensive" system.
Gunplay: No Auto-Aim
TGG confirmed that auto-aim is gone. GTA 6 uses aim assist — it helps you aim — but it doesn't lock on and track targets the way GTA 5's auto-aim did. Kill cams are in, similar to Red Dead Redemption 2 or Max Payne. He didn't have time to go deep on gunplay in this video and has it on his breakdown list for later in the week.
Driving
TGG and Rob Nelson both described the driving as heavier and weightier than GTA 5, with higher top speeds. Rear-wheel drive cars will spin out if you gun the throttle — actual physics, not just a handling-model tweak. Rob Nelson's own summary: "a mix between GTA 4 and GTA 5 but even better."
Fast Travel Options
Multiple fast travel methods exist: bus stops, taxis, and others TGG didn't fully detail. He has notes on the full fast travel system for a later video.
What TGG Still Has to Cover
TGG explicitly named these systems as having their own upcoming breakdown videos:
- Full police system (he only covered about half of his notes here)
- Vehicle system and driving in detail
- Robbery system ("very extensive")
- Fast travel full breakdown
- Fence system
- Events and side activities
- Gunplay
- Menu and HUD in detail
- Safehouses and garages
- Physics
- Criminal Profile — Rob Nelson gave TGG multiple pages of notes on the design philosophy behind it
This article will be updated as TGG publishes those breakdowns.
What This Means for Launch
The Extended Look showed you what GTA 6 looks like. What TGG saw shows you how it plays — and it's a fundamentally different game from GTA 5 in the ways that matter.
The Criminal Profile system alone changes the moment-to-moment calculus of how you move through the world. The police overhaul makes wanted levels a genuine problem to solve rather than a 30-second cooldown. The fence system, the duffel bag economy, the tracker mechanic — these are interlocking systems that require you to think like an actual criminal rather than just a player pressing buttons.
Rob Nelson's framing to TGG is the most accurate summary: this is a game where you can't turn your brain off. That's not a complaint. That's the design goal.
November 19 is 84 days away.

よくある質問
What is the GTA 6 Criminal Profile system?
A hidden reputation system, tracked in a dedicated Jason/Lucia menu tab with no visible bar. It measures how good a criminal you are — clean, efficient crime raises it; excessive, unnecessary violence lowers it — confirmed by Rockstar co-development-head Rob Nelson to YouTuber TGG.
Is Criminal Profile the same as an honor system?
No. It's officially called Criminal Profile, not an honor system, and it measures criminal competence rather than general morality — being a clean, professional criminal raises it even though you're still committing crimes.
How big is the GTA 6 map compared to GTA 5?
Rob Nelson confirmed the full map is twice the size of GTA 5's and three times Red Dead Redemption 2's. Vice City alone is twice the size of Los Santos, and Vice City with its surrounding suburbs is 11 times the size of Los Santos and its surrounds.
Can you complete GTA 6 without using the gym system?
Yes. Rob Nelson confirmed directly to TGG that the gym system is fully optional and never required for story completion — it provides timed stat boosts if you use it, nothing more.
