Rockstar Is Splitting Exclusive Art Across Retailers

Rockstar confirmed alongside its Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album announcement that exclusive vinyl disc colourways, "each featuring unique new art," will be sold through a specific list of retailers rather than one uniform edition everywhere: Blood Records, Best Buy, Walmart, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Target, Urban Outfitters, and unnamed indie retailers, alongside the official Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album store. It's a deliberately fragmented release — the same soundtrack, but a different-looking record depending on where you buy it, which is a collector's-market tactic far more common in music retail than in game marketing.

Blood Records' inclusion on that list is notable in itself. It's a real independent record shop, not a chain, sitting alongside Best Buy, Walmart, and Target — three of the largest physical media retailers in the US — plus Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Urban Outfitters. Rockstar spreading exclusives across that particular mix, from a big-box chain found everywhere to a single indie shop, suggests the retailer list was chosen deliberately rather than simply defaulting to whichever chains already stock game merchandise.

The $124.98 limited-edition pressing is the one most likely to sell out — Rockstar has explicitly stated it's being produced in limited quantities, unlike the standard vinyl and CD. Retailer-exclusive colourways sit on top of this three-tier structure, meaning a specific store's variant of the standard vinyl can still look entirely different from another store's standard vinyl, even at the same price point and tier.

This Isn't Rockstar's First Vinyl Release, But It Is the Biggest

Should You Buy More Than One Copy?

If a specific retailer's exclusive art is what you're actually after, the honest answer is that Rockstar's own structure is built to encourage exactly that — an Amazon-exclusive colourway and a Best Buy-exclusive colourway are, by Rockstar's own description, genuinely different pieces of art on the same album, not a marketing distinction without a real difference. Whether that's worth $49.98 (or $124.98) more than once is a personal decision, but it's worth going in with eyes open: "one vinyl copy" and "the specific colourway you spotted online" may not be the same purchase depending on which store you use.
