GTA 6 Gameplay Is Leaking Out — Here's Why We're Not Showing It

What's happening

Since 18 August, gameplay clips claiming to be from GTA 6 have been spreading across social media. The account posting them goes by Cyberleek. The clips reportedly show Jason on a basketball court, driving through Leonida, in a fight, and flying a small bi-plane with the cinematic camera switched on.

Rockstar is hitting reposts with DMCA takedowns. Quickly — in some cases within minutes of a clip appearing anywhere.

None of this has been confirmed by Rockstar. Say it twice if you need to. Everything below is leaked material, not an official statement.

Why the takedown speed matters

A DMCA notice on its own doesn't prove anything. But the speed and volume here does a lot of the talking. Rockstar doesn't usually move this fast on random fan content — the pattern lines up with a genuine leak, not a hoax farming attention.

Cyberleek has also claimed direct access to an actual playable build, not just a stolen clip reel. One post spelt "LEEK" in bullet holes in-game. That's the sort of thing you do to prove you're inside the build, not something you fake from a highlight reel someone else recorded.

Insider NateTheHate has pushed back on how current the footage actually is, saying some of it may come from a build as old as 2023. Worth bearing in mind before you treat any single detail as final.

What the clips reportedly show

Four separate videos have circulated so far.

The first shows Jason on a basketball court, with a UI element reading "+2% Focus" appearing after he sinks a shot. That's a specific enough detail that it reads more like a stat system than a throwaway animation.

The second shows driving through Leonida streets, offering an early look at traffic and pedestrian density.

The third shows a fight sequence, with a stamina metre that appeared to drain faster whilst swinging a melee weapon.

The fourth — and the one attracting the most attention — shows Jason flying a blue-and-yellow bi-plane over Leonida with the cinematic camera on, giving arguably the clearest look at the map's geography seen in any leak so far.

What Rockstar has actually confirmed

Worth separating from all of the above: Rockstar's own confirmed timeline hasn't changed because of this leak. GTA 6 is still set for 19 November on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Netflix Extended Look was scheduled before Cyberleek posted anything.

That's the entire list of what's actually confirmed right now. A release date, two platforms, and a reveal date. Everything else — the map, the mechanics, the footage itself — is leak-sourced until Rockstar says otherwise.

This isn't the first time

Rockstar survived a much larger version of this back in September 2022, when a leaker using the handle "teapotuberhacker" posted 90 videos and roughly 50 minutes of early GTA 6 footage to GTAForums in a single day. Rockstar confirmed that leak was genuine the following day and released its first official trailer ahead of schedule as a result.

This one is smaller so far — a handful of clips rather than 90 — but it's landing nine days before a reveal Rockstar already had scheduled, which changes the calculus. There's less obvious upside to rushing anything out early this time.

Why we're not showing you the clips

Two reasons, and neither is "we don't think they're real."

First, reposting leaked footage gets accounts and entire pages taken down. We've watched it happen to other outlets covering this very story over the past two days. That's not a trade worth making for footage that might not even represent the finished game.

Second, it doesn't actually get you anything. A leaked clip with no context, from a build that might be out of date, is a worse version of what's already scheduled to arrive on 27 August — officially, in full, from Rockstar itself.

Our policy on this leak, stated plainly

We won't embed, host, or link directly to the leaked clips or any reposts of them, for as long as Rockstar is actively enforcing takedowns. We'll describe what's in them, because that's reporting on a real event. We won't be the reason a page hosting them stays up longer than it otherwise would.

If Rockstar's position changes, ours will too. Right now, it hasn't.

What actually matters right now

Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look premieres on Netflix at 3 PM ET on 27 August. It's a Netflix exclusive for six hours before it lands on Rockstar's YouTube channel and the official GTA 6 site at 9 PM ET the same day.

That's the first look worth trusting. Everything before it — including this leak — is secondhand at best.

Fan reaction is split

Not everyone's convinced. Some fans have pushed back on individual clips as too polished or too convenient, and a sizeable chunk of the reaction online has been outright scepticism rather than excitement. That's normal for a leak of this size — the 2022 leak got the same treatment for the first few hours, before Rockstar's own confirmation ended the debate.

The DMCA response is the strongest signal either way right now, and it's pointing towards real.

This was already going to be a big week

Worth remembering: Rockstar didn't need a leak to make news this week. The Netflix reveal was locked in before any of this started. That actually counts against any theory that this is a planned marketing stunt — a studio doesn't usually let unconfirmed footage muddy a reveal it already controls the timing on.

If anything, the leak makes the 27th more of a clean-up job for Rockstar than a launch moment. Confirm what's real, correct what isn't, move on.

Cyberleek has said more is coming before the 27th. If that happens, we'll cover it the same way we're covering this: what's actually out there, what it means, and nothing we won't stand behind linking to directly.

GTA 6 is scheduled to release on 19 November on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Everything between now and then that isn't from Rockstar directly gets the same label: unconfirmed, until it isn't.
